Diving in Pemutaran, Lovina

Permutaran

Diving in Permutaran is actually quite good with clear water, no current and nice coral but nothing extraordinary (compared to so many of the amazing dive sites that Bali has to offer!). Good place for beginners and for snorkelling too.

It is much more interesting to dive there at night when you can see small weird creatures. Most of the dive sites are coral slopes going down to 25 m deep. Above 6 m deep, the coral tends not to be in such good health due to the El Nino effect back in 1998.

The reefs are mostly covered with gorgonians, sponges and soft coral. You can spot all the usual reef fishes as well as (if you are lucky) the Manta Ray!

All of the dive sites are very close to the diving resorts and are reachable within a short boat ride, perfect for night diving and to spot the superb tiny Mandarin fish.

Lovina

Diving in Lovina is possible but there is nothing too spectacular here. Better to dive other areas around like the wonderful and nearby PJ dive site as well as the superb Menjangan Island.

PJ (Puri Jati)

PJ is one of the newly discovered dive sites around Bali. It is a real paradise for Muck Diving and for underwater macro photography. The bottom is covered with black volcanic sand and gives a perfect background which contrasts against the colourful fishes. On PJ dive site you can see some of the best of Macro Diving like mimic octopus, seahorses, scorpion fish, lionfish, frogfish, ghost pipefish, dragonets, nudibranchs, and many other rare creatures.

Best time to dive in Pemutaran, Lovina

The best season to dive this area is from April to October to avoid the monsoon but diving all year round is possible.
