“My first impression of the boat was not so great, my girlfriend almost wanted to turn around and not go on anymore. Then we took a deep breath, we were greeted by great energy and smiles from the crew. The price was cheap so of course you don’t expect luxury. Everything was in working condition and the crew was friendly. Good thing we did it because after all, it was an outstanding experience.

We sailed the typical itinerary and the dives were stunning all along the way. You dive from a dhoni and that’s great, otherwise the main boat would be much more busy and noisy with the air compressor. We like to eat healthy and stay fit, the food was great. The young cook made a variety of local and western food and it was always good. The dive crew was very knowledgable of the dive sites and they were of good help at all times.

We would definitely go back; being on a fancier boat would not have given us better dives and in this case that’s all that matters. We have seen so many reef sharks, two whale sharks, one nurse shark and thousands of fishes!!! The night dive was also perfect! If you have a big budget and want more luxury then good for you but otherwise this boat has everything you need and more!!! We hope this was helpful! Enjoy!”

  1. Hi there,

My friend and I (2 pax) have booked tickets for 18 Sep – 28 Sep to Male and we are interested in joining a liveaboard. Would like to find out if it is still available?

Appreciate if you could share more information (rates, route, etc.) with us.

Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards
    Xinyi

    • Do not charter the poor excuse for a yacht. A group of ten of us just came back from chartering this boat August 17-31st. The yacht that was supposedly renovated looks like they just removed all the beautiful varnished wood with ugly wallpaper that is already falling off in many places exposing all the termite infestations aboard. The termites are everywhere and the staff does not even clean up the salon deck termite waste. There are so many things wrong with the boat it is hard to list. Every room had its issues including a running toilet that leaked all over the floor continuously. Termites everywhere. A staff that doesn’t care about hygiene since there was no soap in the main salon’s bathroom where most of them would use the toilet. We were told we would have the use of a dinghy and a second vessel for surfing since this was our main priority but only had the use of a 16 ft dinghy with no shade. The staff had no surf knowledge of where to go with what swell directions or anything they just knew of locations and nothing more. The cook fed us cheap mostly oily fried meals, they even ran out of fresh fruit halfway through our trip and when I asked when they would get more he said they had used their money for the trip already. The lower bedrooms smelled of the bathroom sewage, the ac unit in our room did not work properly so we would wake up sweating. The lower rooms have large vents from the hull the allow hot air to escape into the rooms which is nauseating. The most forward lower deck room has a soft floor under the laminate that shows the termites have eaten through underneath. The staff decided not to bring the jet ski since the last group didn’t use it!? The staff also said they forgot the pump for the slide so on days with no surf we couldn’t even enjoy it. The staff was friendly but that can’t suffice for lack of knowledge and idiocies. Our food preference sheets were ignored and I had to try and teach the cook how to cook but he still didn’t get it most of the time. Find a charter with a non-Maldivian owner.

  2. Overall experience was good. The boat is a bit dated and could use some update there and there, same thing for the diving equipment. The crew was nice and friendly. Diving the Maldives was great. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the current can be strong and make your dive hard and less enjoyable. I think the crew could have helped more on this. Maybe telling people before they enter the water, making a more detailed briefing with tips on how to manage to fight the current efficiently. Great experience still but I think I will invest more money in my next liveaboard.

  3. So, my experience on that boat was 3 years ago and I never wrote about it and then I found this cool website looking for my next trip coming this february and thought I should let people know they should try this thrilling adventure. The Maldives are great place to dive and the Eagle Ray is a great vessel to live this adventure on. It is true that the boat is oldish and they haven’t performed much update on it. But, if you are okay with average comfort, a super friendly crew, great food and majestic dives, then you will fit on that boat! Cheers! Jay

  4. First, we were only 10 divers on the boat, that was great, everybody had space to live and feel comfortable. I think if we would have been more people, like 14 or 16, it would have been sketchy. The diving dhoni would need a serious update and some diving equipment as well. Staff were helpful and always in a good mood. A better level of English would be great to make communication easier. The staff was kind of not so professional I would say but I guess it was okay, we were experienced divers and it gave us a bit of freedom that we enjoyed.

Diving was great, we saw so much sea life I couldn’t believe it. We roamed around freely, didn’t have to follow all the time, etc. We had mostly good weather so the waters were clear and easy to navigate.
