Life aboard Princess Dhonkamana
Princess Dhonkamana spreads its relaxation spaces across three sun decks and terraces, with sofas and loungers. Indoors, the saloon and bar provide a meeting place; evening snacks accompany the aperitif. The separate diving dhoni keeps equipment preparation away from these living areas.

Meals are served in a large covered outdoor dining area. Western cooking, set-menu dinners and vegetarian and vegan options are advertised. The cover is useful when you want fresh air without sitting in direct sun. Discuss your diet before booking, especially when a set menu needs adapting.

The Princess Dhonkamana is a wooden yacht of 31m in length, 10m wide, and a cruising speed of approximately 10 knots. The liveaboard offers scuba diving cruises in the Maldives. Outside of your cabin, there is ample space in the interior communal areas, where you can sit, relax, read a book or use the entertainment system. Moreover, you will find room to relax outside as well with a partially shaded bow deck and the top sundeck both at your disposal. There are couches and lounge chairs available to use. In terms of cuisine, the MV Princess Dhonkamana Maldives serves a mixture of local and Western/European dishes. The dining room boasts a stunning view over the Maldives as it is outside – but covered!
Travelling with a non-diver on Princess Dhonkamana?
Confirm a non-diving place directly for Princess Dhonkamana and the chosen departure. A current boat-specific acceptance policy and companion fare have not been established here. Ask whether the booking is a shared cruise berth or a whole-yacht charter, and obtain the price for your dates, duration, cabin and occupancy, including taxes and transfers. Skipping dives does not by itself establish a discount.
Request a practical programme for the companion: which guided snorkeling sessions or island excursions are actually planned, whether equipment and guidance are included, and which activities cost extra. Get the minimum logged dives, certification, required equipment and no-fly interval in writing from the operator. A statement that a boat welcomes beginners does not mean every route or dive is suitable for them.
Example circuit: Malé → South Malé → Vaavu → South Ari → North Ari → Rasdhoo → Malé. Operators vary the order and select sites according to the departure, weather and currents.
- Maaya Thila, North Ari: a reef pinnacle; conditions affect dive planning.
- Alimatha, Vaavu: the island marker locates the surrounding night-diving area, not an exact entry point.
- South Ari: the Maamigili marker locates the wider whale-shark area; encounters are not guaranteed.
- Rasdhoo: an atoll reference for the surrounding reefs, not a promised stop.
Most central itineraries use Malé-area boarding and return. Check the actual meeting point and airport transfer; southern one-way departures may require domestic flights.
