Why choose a liveaboard diving trip?
Often, the best way to do a lot of diving and still enjoy some quality downtime is on a scuba diving cruise. Liveaboards are floating hotels: walk to the dive deck, gear up, dive, then return for a snack and time to relax. Repeat through the day, for several nights or longer.
The right trip starts with the route. Two boats in the same destination can visit different sites, require different experience levels and include very different extras. Use the guides below to build your shortlist, then check the details of your exact departure.

How to compare liveaboards
A beautiful cabin is only part of the experience. Compare the same departure dates and cabin category, and ask for the full price in writing before booking.
| Compare | Ask the operator | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Route & time | Which sites are planned? How many diving days, nights and sea crossings? | A longer cruise does not always mean more diving. |
| Diving experience | What certification, recent experience and logged dives are required? | The route needs to fit your comfort with depth, current and entries. |
| Cabin & sharing | Which deck, bed layout and bathroom? Is there a solo supplement? | A lead-in fare may apply only to a shared cabin. |
| Total cost | Are park fees, taxes, fuel charges, transfers, nitrox and equipment included? | Compare the final payable amount, not just the advertised fare. |
| Dive setup | How large are the groups? Are dives guided? What cylinders and rental sizes are available? | Daily logistics affect comfort and the pace of your trip. |
| Onboard procedures | How are briefings, emergency procedures and equipment checks handled? | Look for clear, specific answers rather than a star rating alone. |
| Booking terms | What happens if the route, vessel or departure changes? What are the cancellation terms? | Understand your options before paying a deposit. |
Budget tip: add the cruise fare, mandatory extras, flights, hotels and transfers before comparing trips. Keep optional costs such as rental gear, drinks and gratuities separate. Old review prices are context, not a current quote.

Divezone brings together boat profiles, destination information and reader contributions where available. A boat description and a guest’s experience answer different questions. Read both, and check when the trip took place.
- Match the itinerary. An excellent review of one route may tell you little about another route on the same boat.
- Look for useful details. Cabin noise, guiding, dive-deck space, food and how the crew handled changes are more informative than a score alone.
- Check recency and patterns. Refits, ownership and crew can change. Compare several recent accounts rather than relying on one unusually positive or negative comment.
- Confirm the essentials. Use reviews to form questions, then verify current operations, inclusions and requirements with the operator or booking provider.
Already have a boat in mind? Browse the liveaboard directory to find its profile. Some profiles and comments are historical; a listing alone does not confirm that a boat is operating or has available departures.
Liveaboard diving: frequently asked questions
What is a diving liveaboard?
A liveaboard is a boat where you sleep, eat and dive during a multi-day trip. The itinerary takes you between dive areas, with accommodation and meals typically bundled into the cruise. Check the exact inclusions for each departure.
Which liveaboard is best for me?
Start with your travel dates, preferred region and diving experience. Then compare the route, total cost, cabin and recent guest feedback. There is no single best boat for every diver: a short reef trip and a remote expedition serve different needs.
Can a beginner join a liveaboard?
Some itineraries accept newly certified divers; others require more logged dives or advanced certification. Ask about the exact route, guiding and conditions before booking. Do not assume that every trip in a destination has the same requirements.
How much does a liveaboard cost in 2026?
There is no reliable single price: destination, season, cruise length, cabin and inclusions all affect the total. Obtain a dated quote for your departure and use the comparison checklist above to identify extras. Compare cost per night alongside actual diving days.
When should I book?
Once your dates and itinerary are clear, compare availability for the cabin you need. Popular routes and limited-capacity departures can fill early. Last-minute deals can suit flexible travellers, but include flights and transfers when checking whether the saving is worthwhile.
Can I travel solo or bring a non-diving partner?
Many boats offer shared-cabin arrangements or private cabins with a supplement. Non-diver activities and discounts vary; confirm snorkelling access, shore visits and whether the itinerary will be enjoyable for your companion.
How can I share my liveaboard experience?
Open the individual boat page and use its comment section where available. Include the month and year, route, cabin type, what worked well and what could be improved. If comments are closed or you spot an outdated detail, contact Divezone.
