MV Virgo Liveaboard Review

The MV Virgo is the sister vessel to the MV Leo and MV Orion, which form the well-known Constellation Fleet operating in the Maldives.

White sand beaches and rich waters brimming with exotic aquatic life are what the Maldives are famous for. The currents circulating the hundreds of islands and atolls that make up the Maldives spread key nutrients that bring in the amazing aquatic life on some of the reef and drift dives.

Sweetlips, parrotfish, grouper and moray eels lurk inside the the bright waters of the shallower reefs. While, on open ocean wall and drift dives, there is always the chance of larger pelagic animals passing in the blue; sharks, rays and other larger pelagic life sometimes appearing to lucky divers. The Maldives is truly a paradise for divers.

Known as the ‘baby’ of the Constellation fleet at 31m long and 10m beam, the MV Virgo is directly comparable with the MV Leo, MV Honours Legacy, MV Fun Azul and MY Conte Max in size and facilities. Cutting through the waves at a cruising speed of 10 knots, she is more than capable of of effortlessly transporting you from one amazing site to the next.

Cabins and Boat Layout

MV Virgo has 3 deck levels which accommodate just 15 guests, giving MV Virgo a cosier, more intimate feel than many of the larger and more decadent liveaboard safari offerings available.

MV Virgo was refitted in 2012 and is finished to an excellent standard. There are 5 twin/double cabins on the lower deck. On the main deck, unusually for a Maldivian liveaboard, there is a single cabin. Upstairs on the upper deck, there are 2 further twin/double cabins. There is also a Jacuzzi on the upper deck.

Each cabin is en-suite with toilet and shower facilities powered by the onboard water makers which have a 1.2 ton rating.

Onboard you’ll find some of the other luxury facilities typical of the Constellation fleet. There is a Jacuzzi for those wishing to relax in a bath of bubbles, MV Virgo also provides a restaurant serving both western and Asian cuisine and a fully equipped bar.

For those wanting to stay connected for business purposes or, alternatively, for posting on social media, there is wi-fi available onboard – depending on location – for a small fee.

Diving onboard MV Virgo

As with it’s sister vessel the MV Leo, the diving around the best Maldives underwater spots is conducted from the supporting dhoni. With 3 staff to support you and take you to the most remote and beautiful reefs, the MV Virgo also has free Nitrox available and Nautilus lifelines for safety.

Itineraries

Much like the MV Leo, the MV Virgo offers a full range of options with regard to itineraries; including the 8 day ‘Best of Maldives’, the 8 day ‘Manta Madness’ and, for those looking for a longer safari, the 10 night ‘Deep South’ tour. 7 night packages are available too. There’s ample choice depending on how much diving you want to get from your safari.

Expect to pay EUR1226 for an 8 day/7 night trip. This equates to EUR191/day, making Virgo competitively priced for the Maldives.
