MV Blue Melody Liveaboard Review

Completely refitted in 2008, the luxurious MV Blue Melody is one of the stunning Blue O Two fleet – winning the Sport Diver Liveaboard of the year award in 2013. Spacious, airy, stable and extremely comfortable – there a few vessels better equipped to take you on a diving tour of the legendary Red Sea.

Known for the variety of it’s dive sites, clear blue waters and abundant marine life, the Red Sea is correctly on every diver’s to-do list. The Red Sea is said by experts to be a habitat to 1100 species of fish, 200 species of hard and soft corals and some 44 shark species. From wrecks, to reefs to walls and drop offs. There’s something for everyone and, with water temperatures between 20-28c depending on the season, it’s never cold!

Blue Melody was originally constructed in 2007 and has all the modern safety and comfort features you would expect from a modern vessel built for purpose. 38m long and 8m in beam, she is large and stable. Ideally sized for her environment. Blue melody is constructed of wood and powered by twin 764hp engines which make short work of journeys between dive sites.

Cabins and Boat Layout

Blue Melody is able to cater to a maximum of 20 guests.

There is a choice of either Deluxe Twin or Deluxe Double cabin depending on your personal circumstances.

The majority of cabins are located on the lower deck for stability. Each cabin is air-conditioned and has individual climate controls for a comfortable night’s sleep. Other features include en-suite bathroom facilities, mini-bar and TV/DVD media should you wish to relax and watch a movie in private. You’ll also find a fresh towel in your cabin every day.

When not in your well-appointed cabin, Blue Melody has a large saloon area with comfortable seating. In the saloon is a large TV/DVD entertainment system. Or, why not relax with your dive buddies in the ‘sky lounge’ on the upper deck.

The dining area is spacious and has ample room for guests to relax and, over a selection of fresh local and western foods, discuss the great diving and share stories.

Upstairs on the top deck you’ll find a very large sundeck. Here you can soak up the sun in-between dives as you relax with a cold drink or snack; both of which are available throughout the day.

Diving onboard Blue Melody

Unlike many liveaboards, Blue O Two own and operate their vessels. It reflects in the fact that this vessel is very much geared for divers. Diving areas are spacious and well organised. Facilities are excellent.

Dive Deck

For those qualified, there is Nitrox available onboard at a small addition cost. The membrane system onboard meaning there is an inexhaustible supply of the oxygen rich air; absolutely essential for those wishing to stay a little longer at depth. Or, for those qualified, there are technical diving facilities onboard. Blue Melody is even rebreather friendly.

The vessel has 2 diving zodiacs equipped with 40hp outboards to assist with pick-ups and drops at some sites and – for the photographers – there are camera stations, charging points and rinse tanks.

Itineraries

Itineraries vary. So whether you’re the sort of diver who prefers drifting along a reef or wall or, alternatively, you’re a wreck-head – there’s something for you!

Voyages are typically 8 days. Expect to pay around EUR1,250 for this length trip. This equates to 140/day. However, please note that this does not include some extras such as port/marine park fees, nitrox fills and equipment rental. Please contact us for further details.
