More blue water for your budget

The Bahamas are a rewarding scuba diving and snorkeling destination, with reefs, fish life and memorable wildlife encounters. A smaller budget can still buy a wonderful week at sea—provided you choose accommodation that suits you and count the extras.

Use this guide to decide where to save and where extra spending helps. For all boats and a detailed price table, see the Bahamas liveaboard comparison; for routes and seasons, start with our planning guide.

Blackbeard’s: the lowest published cruise subtotal in our comparison

Morning Star and Sea Explorer offer a communal sailing-boat experience from Nassau. The operator’s 2026 six-night rate is USD 1,195 per person plus USD 210 compulsory fees: USD 1,405 before travel and optional extras.

Meals, snacks, specified drinks, diving, tanks and weights are included. Accommodation is in shared bunk spaces with shared bathrooms. Pack light, expect modest storage and confirm the allocated berth. The operator advertises up to 19 dives, subject to conditions.

What is worth paying more for?

Extra spending When it makes sense
A more private cabin If shared sleeping spaces would affect your rest and enjoyment, compare Juliet’s cabin options or Aqua Cat.
A hotel night before boarding A useful buffer against missed connections and delayed dive luggage.
Appropriate insurance Check diving, evacuation, cancellation and weather-related coverage rather than assuming a standard policy covers everything.
Training or a refresher Complete any required preparation so the operator can approve your participation in the planned dives.
The right itinerary A cheap Exumas berth is poor value if your main goal is a dedicated Tiger Beach expedition.

Build the full budget

Add flights, baggage, hotel buffers, transfers, rental equipment, optional gas or training, insurance, tips and meals ashore. Check the current invoice rather than assuming “all-inclusive” means the whole holiday.

Other six-night references include Juliet’s standard USD 2,100 fare with the current rate sheet including its port charge and Nitrox, and Cat Ppalu’s individual 2026 USD 1,845 fare plus USD 265 in the dated tariff. Their cabins, departure arrangements and inclusions differ. See the comparison’s notes on conflicting operator wording.

Practical ways to reduce spending

  • Compare total flight-and-boat combinations, not just cruise prices.
  • Choose a shared berth if you are comfortable with the arrangement.
  • Check several real departure dates, then read the fare and cancellation conditions.
  • Reserve suitable rental equipment in advance and compare it with airline baggage costs.
  • Ask what is included before adding packages you may not need.

A promotion is only useful if the boat, cabin and route suit you. We do not present an old starting price or an unconfirmed specialist charter as a current bargain.

Before booking

Confirm your experience is accepted, the actual vessel, berth and bathroom arrangement, all compulsory fees, departure port and final no-fly interval. See the travel guide for logistics and the diving guide for sites and conditions.

Budget FAQ

Is Blackbeard’s the cheapest holiday overall?

It has the lowest published cruise subtotal among the references compared here. Flights, transfers and personal needs can change the total, so it is not a universal cheapest-trip guarantee.

Does a lower fare mean a private cabin?

No. Blackbeard’s pricing is for communal bunk accommodation. Check the sleeping and bathroom arrangements carefully.

Where do I compare more comfortable cabins?
