MV Galatea dive boat review
The Seychelles islands are a magical place to visit and dive and there are few better ways to tour the area and experience it’s blue waters and stunning reefs than the MV Galatea.
Sometimes known as the ‘jewel of the Indian Ocean’, the Seychelles are a breathtaking archipelago surrounded by clear, warm, azure blue waters teeming with marine life, lush coral and white sand. Thousands of species of fish have been recorded.

The Galatea is one of the most unique and charming liveaboard safari vessels operating anywhere on the globe. Built in 1987 in Bodrum, Turkey. She was then fully renovated again at her original location during 2012-2013. A 30m long and 6m beam the commercial yacht Galatea sails from Mahe at a cruising speed of 7 knots. Under a combination of wind and engine power she will glide you effortlessly from site to site and island to island. She is without a direct comparison.
Cabins and Boat Layout
Galatea is able to accommodate 12 guests over her 7 cabins. In addition to the 3 crew cabins, the guest cabins are split as follows:
2 x Single Cabins located on the lower aft deck featuring a ‘Queen’ sized bed and private bathroom with shower.
4 x Double Cabins on the lower deck also featuring a ‘Queen’ sized bed and private bathroom with shower.
1 x Master Suite located in the middle of the bow deck, the master suite features a ‘King’ sized bed, bathroom with shower and double amenities. It also features one separate toilet with bidet.
All the cabins are tastefully furnished, air-conditioned and sure to offer you a relaxing and comfortable place to relax and sleep.
Outside of the cabins the Galatea is equally well appointed. There is a saloon or living room area featuring TV, DVD and stereo should you wish to relax indoors and watch a film in the evening or read a book.
Alternatively, for the sun-worshippers, there is a sun deck or solarium on the aft deck and also on the upper deck.
At the end of a day’s diving there are not one, but two bars! One indoors and one outdoors. So, you can relax with a beer or cocktail as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean vista.
Also outside you’ll find an outdoor dining area with space for 14 diners to enjoy the combination of superb western and local foods.
Scuba Diving Onboard Galatea
The Galatea visits some of the most famous of the Seychelles’ dive sites including Praslin, La Digue, Curieuse and both the Little Sister and Grand Sister sites – depending on itinerary and conditions. The Seychelles diving is of an intermediate ability level and a minimum of 50 dives is required.
The boat is fully equipped with all the required safety features utilises 12ltr aluminium tanks with both DIN and INT valve configurations.
In addition to Galatea there at two accompanying support vessels; 1 diving boat from which much of the diving is conducted – 9m long and with a 140hp motor. And a further 4m, 40hp support dinghy for support and safety.

Galetea cruises the inner Seychelles Islands choosing all the best dive sites on the basis of conditions and seasons. Usually on a 8 day, 7 night itinerary.
