Tambora dive boat review

The Tambora departs and ends its liveaboard tour to Sorong. Unlike many other vessels, the Tambora has been designed and built especially with SCUBA divers in mind! It is designed to offer great comfort, reliability and is optimally aimed to support safe, convenient and efficient dive journeys.

The Tambora’s on board Chef makes sure that five meals are served per day, which will await their guests when they surface after diving! Indonesian, European and Japanese specialties are all freshly prepared.

Customer Review

“I wouldn’t think twice to hop again on Tambora if given with another chance. It was a privilege to be with a great diving team and management. Tambora is fabulously designed for divers. They definitely had the necessary things that I need, more than enough to survive a trip on the beautiful and splendid islands of Raja Ampat. The air-conditioned cabins come with twin beds or double beds equipped with hot and cold shower. They were well-kept and the bed sheets were comfy and inviting. However, I wish that they could do something to improve their camera room located near the rear part of the boat. It was very hot in that room. I was profusely sweating inside. There was not even a fan to help me cool down a bit.
During my 10 days trip, I got to meet Uwe, the free-spoken and well-versed man. It’s nice to cruise with the owner himself. I admire his contagious enthusiasm and passion for diving in Indonesia. He was always on the lookout to find new dive spots to make our diving adventure more fun! I also applaud his intentions to make Tambora much better and raise the bar higher for liveaboard diving. Our diving guides did their job very well. They were fun and awesome to be with. Thanks to the cool dive guides, who encouraged and inspired me to complete my  dives.  They were very patient with us and shared a lot of info regarding the dive sites and diverse marine life in Raja Ampat. We felt very comfortable and safe while on board Tambora. The boat was spacious for everyone. Speaking of food, I would proudly say that Tambora has one of the best cooks in the liveaboard industry! I enjoyed devouring the varied delish and mouth-watering Indonesian and Western dishes served. Well done, guys!”

5 liveaboard reviews for “Tambora”

  1. Thanks to my friend who recommended a superb boat who gives an exceptional service. Yes, I’m talking about Tambora! It’s a wooden pinisi which looks sleek. It has an expansive space especially in the dive deck and lounge area. I also liked the spacious cabins. Each cabin has private bathroom which make things convenient for me and my wife. Although I can hear some banging sounds originating from the lower deck sometimes, the cabins were generally serene. There were plug sockets and a writing desk which was of great use to me as a writer/blogger and underwater photographer. Simple things like these make life easier!

I laud Uwe, who has been managing Tambora very well for years now. I heard he lives on the boat permanently to make sure things run smoothly in Tambora.

It was very comfortable and safe to stay in Tambora. The boat was homey and relaxing for me and my wife and the rest of the guests. Their diving team was very efficient and competent. The dive guides knew their job very well. My trip in Raja Ampat with Tambora was full of nature and dive tripping, laughter, fun and adventure. I’m planning to take the same boat but next time when I’ll b exploring the Southeastern Moluccas!

Tambora also gave more personalized service, unlike other liveaboards. I’m talking about their meals. Either you want some bacon, toast or sunny-side up, breakfast onboard this boat is cooked to order. A myriad of delectable and exquisite Indonesian and international dishes was also served for lunch and dinner. You can also partake of the sushi feast happening usually on the last day of the trip. Fruits, coffee, water, tea, cookies were readily available anytime for free. You can send off some cash for sodas and beer. I would suggest that you bring your own wine because Indonesian taxes are quite high. Thanks for the stupendous diving experience, Tambora!

  2. Undiscovered area, always very few divers on the dive sites… Just our boat for the major part. There’s no word that can make justice for such pristine and unique diving! As for the stay on the boat, it was great. We spent 10 days with many awesome people from all over the world sharing our experiences. The rooms are great, the vessel is spacious so you never stumble on each other. Staff is great, friendly and helpful. I do not see what else you could ask for… Enjoy!

  3. I was very interested in diving around Indonesian Borneo and this boat seems to be one of the rare boat to navigate in this area. I did a 10 days trip on it’s board and now I have my head filled with amazing unforgettable memories!

The Tambora boat was obviously built for scuba diving purpose The cabins are roomy and all come with a nice ensuite bathroom. There’s even a desk, that was great so I could work on my pictures at night! The big sun decks, one in front and one on top, are perfect to chill out, get a nice tan and watch the sunsets.

There’s also a camera room so all photographers in our group were super happy about it. It was a great adventure. Diving is this area was even above my expectations. Everything is quite untouched and beautiful to discover!!!

  4. Spent 12 days on Tambora over Xmas 2017-18. Great experience. Extremely helpful and friendly crew, great food (varied and customized), and exceptional diving (often the only dive boat at the site). Testifying to the quality of the boat: more than half of the divers were repeat customers. We would certainly dive with them again as well.

    • Hi Jon!
