Elephant head dive site is the most famous spot of the Similan Islands. The name comes from the shape of the rock at the surface which looks like an Elephant’s head. There are many small caves, arches and swim-throughs which makes it an amazing playground for scuba divers. You can encounter many species of sharks like whitetip, blacktip and leopard sharks. The fish life is really varied and you will be amazed by the huge schools of pelagics like giant trevallies and barracudas hunting around the large granite boulders. This dive spot in the Similan Islands is better suited to experienced divers as the sea bottom is deep at around 70 m! The current can be also very strong there.
Best time to dive: the ideal period to plan holidays here isOctober to November. Access: from the Shore. See the map of Elephant Head Rock on the right for the exact location.

Similan Islands
Great Biodiversity and fauna. Excellent chances to spot the giants Manta rays and Whale Sharks. Superb Scenery of tropical islands! Good spot for underwater photography.
Elephant Head is one of the highlights of scuba diving in the Similans!

also never hadany probs with theift in thailand anywhere land or seadive over twenty dive sites went all over andaman coast was yhere for five weeks… must of been bad luck there andrew and the water viz and fish life seemed to be how they say it in thailand.. same same…. always awsum
A pretty nice dive with dramatic underwater topography and lots of pelagics. Would score it a 3 or 4
I have never been to Similian islands but am thinking of going to Khao Lak with my husband and do diving day trips from there, BUT I´m not sure if it´s the best choice. Please advice!
We have been diving in the Maldives, Sipadan in Borneo, Egypt and Mexico which have all been spectacular but our experiences from Thailand are really crap in comparison. We have been to Phi phi islands and Koh Samet and the corals were all dead and we hardly saw any fish at all.
Please tell me Similian islands is COMPLETEY different?!
