MV Celebes Explorer dive boat review
The 29 meters Celebes Explorer is the only liveaboard cruising around Malaysia’s Sipadan. Offering year round dive cruise in this rather lonely dive spot promises incredible encounters and some pristine scuba diving.
Boat Cabins & Layout
The Celebes Explorer features 8 cabins on-board, for a maximum capacity of 16 guests on each trip. Moreover, every cabin comes with an en-suite bathroom as well as air conditioning.
Also, you can choose from a few cabins layout. Indeed, the cabins are either 1 double bed or a double bed with single bunk on top.

The vessel has an indoor lounge an mini bar as well as a partially covered sundeck where you can relax. Chairs, mats and tables are spread around for your convenience.
The delicious buffet meals are prepared fresh everyday and included a mix of Malaysian and Chinese fares.
Diving with the Celebes Explorer
Sipadan is known for it’s thousands of fishes (some exists only there), beautiful coral gardens and stunning drop-off walls. Also, only some resorts and diving institutions are granted permits to dive there, so it’s very well preserved. Indeed, the Celebes Explorer is one of the rare compagnies allowed permits to dive Sipadan’s best site. Plus, they offer you up to 4 dives per day.

Tioman island
Nice and easy diving in clear water and beautiful coral reefs. Good location to take diving courses.
Perhentian Islands
Nice and easy diving with nice coral and rich marine life. The snorkelling is very good with many harmless blacktip reef sharks.
Langkawi Island
Easy and relaxing diving for all level divers. Good wreck diving opportunities.
Sipadan
Big fishes Land! Incredible Marine Life with tons of fishes everywhere... Fantastic coral and very good visibility.
Mabul Island

Well, the only advantage of this boat is clearly that it’s the only one going to Sipadan. It’s an older, shabby vessel.
Good news is that I’ve heard that there’s a new boat coming soon… Not sure from which fleet but yay! Sipadan was amazing so I’d sure go back!
So for those going on the Celebes Explorer soon I will say don’t worry, the staff is great, the food is good and the journey’s worth the destination 100%.
