Information checked 29 September 2026

The best diving center in Jakarta for you is the one that matches your schedule, learning needs and onward trip. This guide compares six Jakarta diving centers, including two additions to our original selection, with current operator information where available. It is a practical shortlist, not a numerical ranking or an on-site safety inspection.

How much does a diving course in Jakarta cost?

Compare the cost of reaching certification, not just a headline fee. We do not have equivalent, current all-inclusive quotes for all six centers, so a cheapest-to-most-expensive ranking would be misleading.

Published price example: OdyDive lists Open Water from IDR 5,500,000 per person, checked 29 September 2026. It includes tuition, eLearning, certification, up to two pool sessions and pool equipment. Island training, sea-dive gear, boat/accommodation/meals and relevant fees are extra. This is not an all-inclusive certification total. Read the operator’s inclusions and exclusions and request a dated quote.

Your quote checklist

Tick each item once you have confirmed whether it is included or extra. The checklist stays on this page and sends no information.

Plan your course and island dives

  1. Choose the learning format. Ask how theory, pool practice and open-water dives fit together. For a referral, obtain written agreement from both the Jakarta instructor and your destination center before paying.
  2. Confirm the exact locations. Check the classroom, pool and embarkation point separately. Allow generous travel time across Jakarta and avoid a tight airport-to-boat connection.
  3. Get dated sea-training arrangements. The Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) feature in local operators’ offerings. Ask which island, how many dives and nights, what happens if the group is too small, and the weather cancellation policy.
  4. Leave room for learning. A deadline should not rush skills practice. Ask what extra sessions cost and what happens if you need longer to meet the course requirements.

Choosing an instructor and checking safety

Ask about student-to-instructor numbers, teaching language, equipment fit and servicing, emergency oxygen, first-aid provision and the boat’s evacuation plan. Complete the required medical screening and obtain medical clearance where indicated. Check that your insurance covers the planned training and diving.

Flying onwards? For divers without symptoms after no-decompression diving, DAN recommends at least 12 hours after a single dive and 18 hours after multiple dives or multiple days of diving. Longer intervals reduce risk; dives requiring decompression stops need substantially longer than 18 hours. Build a buffer into your itinerary and follow the guidance appropriate to your diving. Read DAN’s flying-after-diving guidance.

Jakarta diving courses: frequently asked questions

Which Jakarta diving center is best for beginners?

Bubbles and OdyDive are useful first contacts because PADI lists on-site training facilities. Choose after discussing class size, language, pool time and the complete sea-training plan. Directory status alone does not tell you which instructor will suit you best.

Can I complete certification entirely in a Jakarta pool?

No. A pool introduction is different from an Open Water qualification. Certification requires the relevant knowledge, skills and open-water training. Confirm where and when the sea dives take place.

Can I do pool training in Jakarta and finish in Bali?

Ask both centers about an accepted referral before booking. Confirm paperwork, the validity period, remaining dives, agency compatibility and the separate destination fee.

Are PADI and SSI courses available in Jakarta?

PADI lists Bubbles and OdyDive; Sea Pearl’s website has an SSI course section. Confirm current course availability and the agency on your certification before paying, particularly where public information is limited.

Is the cheapest advertised price the full course cost?

Not necessarily. Sea dives, boat transport, overnight stays and rental equipment may be separate. Use the checklist above to compare equivalent packages.

What is the best season to learn to dive in Jakarta?

Pool training depends on the center’s timetable. For sea sessions, ask the operator about expected conditions for your actual dates and their weather policy. Keep flexibility for changes instead of relying on a promised visibility figure.

How this guide was checked

Updated 29 September 2026 using the official operator pages, PADI directory entries and DAN guidance linked above. Published information was reviewed online; we did not visit the centers or obtain individual booking confirmations. Photo sources and video publication years are labelled, uncertain details are identified, and no historical review scores are presented as current. The shortlist is not exhaustive.
