  • Position Type: Full-time, On-site
  • Start Date: ASAP

 About the Role

MRCI is seeking a passionate, resilient, and proactive PADI Dive Instructor to join our Marine Conservation team on the remote island of Nosy Komba, Madagascar. This is not your average dive centre job, it’s an opportunity to make a real impact in marine conservation while living and working in one of the most biodiverse and beautiful marine ecosystems in the world.

You’ll be leading dive training for international volunteers and interns, supporting marine survey activities, and ensuring the ongoing operation and maintenance of all diving infrastructure. You’ll need to be a problem-solver, a team player, and comfortable working with limited resources in a developing-world context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct PADI dive training (Open Water, Advanced, etc.) for volunteers and interns.
  • Supervise dives for marine conservation activities such as coral reef, turtle, and nudibranch surveys.
  • Operate and maintain the dive compressor, ensuring safe air fills and general functionality.
  • Troubleshoot and service the compressor as required.
  • Perform annual inspections and maintenance of dive equipment (regs, BCDs, tanks, etc.).
  • Work closely with the Marine Program Manager and the Volunteer Operations team.
  • Ensure all diving activities adhere to MRCI’s safety protocols and Green Fins practices.

Requirements

  • Certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) or higher.
  • Operational knowledge of dive compressors (Bauer preferred).
  • Competence in servicing dive gear and conducting annual inspections.
  • Previous experience working in remote or third-world environments.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to improvise and problem-solve with limited resources.
  • Passion for marine conservation and environmental sustainability.

What We Offer

  • Unique opportunity to live and work in Nosy Komba, a volcanic island surrounded by coral reefs and tropical marine life.
  • A supportive and mission-driven team focused on impactful conservation.
  • Accommodation and meals provided on-site.
  • Opportunity to contribute to education, data collection, and community-based conservation.
