The very common belief that the Caribbeans are to be avoided during the summer months is more a myth than it is real. The summer months are known as the hurricane season, but the reality is that the months of June, July and August are just great down there! First, hurricanes are rare. Second, most islands, especially the southernmost islands, are not even bothered by the storms when they do come. Finally, for divers, the visibility is mostly 10/10 all year round. Furthermore, if you look at any reliable climate advisory website, you’ll notice that the “no go” months are mostly September and October, you know, when everyone is back to school and work anyway? So, get your luggage ready… the Caribbean Islands await!

We thought is was about time to make a list of the best scuba diving destination in the Caribbean! Indeed, you will notice that for most of the top places, it’s a sure ‘Go!’ all year when it comes to the climate. Let’s explore!

1. Netherlands Antilles, a.k.a ABC Islands

You may know these Netherlands paradise islands better as the ABC Islands, or by their individual names. Indeed, Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao are stunning tourists from all around the world! The Netherlands Antilles are definitely the most shielded Caribbean islands when it comes to bad weather and hurricanes. They are an amazing destination for tourists and even more for divers, enjoyable all year!

Let’s focus on THE place… Bonaire! // The scuba diving conditions, especially around Bonaire, are optimal, leaving you with nothing but great dives! First, the visibility is over the 100ft during the entire year, allowing amazing scuba diving but also perfect conditions to simply snorkel! Secondly, there are a little less than 100 marked dives sites for you to enjoy. Plus, most dive sites are easily accessible from shore and there are uncountable great snorkeling spots along the way. Finally, the corals are lively and teeming with colorful marine life such as parrot-fish, trigger-fish, squids, seahorses, peacock flounders and many common reef fishes and critters.

2. The Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are also great year round in term of climate. That being said, the months of July, August, September and October can see changing weather, it’s advised to get more information when planning your trip. Furthermore, the three Cayman islands altogether have exactly 365 dive sites! Indeed, the 3 islands (Grand, Little and Brac Caymans) are the very top of huge seamounts, so they are surrounded by corals! Plus, most reefs and walls are healthy as great protection efforts have been made through the decades! Needless to say that having such a huge number of dive sites allows to close some temporarily and alternate through the years without impacting the economy of the region. This is only a small part of the distance the Marine authorities have gone to insure a healthy marine environment in the Cayman Islands.

In 2017, the Cayman Islands are celebrating 30 years of scuba diving! Plenty of dive centers and liveaboards of the Caymans are offering discounts for the occasion! The Bahamas have thousands of resorts on the main islands and even more cruise  ships that sails through their harbors everyday. The best diving is often said to be found on the Out Islands, mostly the Exuma Cays and Bimini Islands. Indeed, the reefs are mostly pristine and definitely not over crowded… except for the fishes & shark visitors!
