Amed is a very good diving spot for Macro and Muck Diving fans. You will find there many critters and small weird stuff to discover. Moreover Amed is a very affordable diving location and makes a perfect base to go diving by the famous USS Liberty Ship Wreck in Tulamben.
It is not only divers who can experience the amazing underwater life here – walk just a few meters off the shore with your snorkel and flippers and you’ll feel like you have walked into the film set of Finding Nemo – there are beautiful, bright, colourful fish and all sorts of rich marine life to discover. And what’s surprising is that the vibrant coral is so close to the shoreline (you can easily spend a whole day here).

Best Dive Review
Scuba diving in Amed is very easy and a relaxing experience. There is no current (or very light at the most) and it is a perfect place for courses and introductions to diving. Most of the dive sites are accessible from the shore or by a very short boat trip in typical Balinese boat called jukung.
Amed is a perfect place for Underwater Macro Photography and Muck Diving:
- Due to its proximity of the Mount Agung volcano, the sand is black and it makes a really great and unusual contrast with the colourful coral and critters.
- A chance to spot the rare Ghost Pipefish, Pygmy Seahorse and the (very rare) and fascinating Mimic Octopus.
- Most of the dive sites are shallow, meaning you spend more time underwater, checking out the underwater splendours.
- Very light current and good visibility (ranges from 15 to 25 metres).
Some of the preferred dive sites for photography are Jemeluk and the artificial reef of Ghost Bay and the Japanese Wreck. If you’re feeling brave, you can venture out for a dive at night!

Snorkelling in Amed
Amed contains great snorkelling! Off the many beaches, in the beautiful bays around Amed, the reefs are sometimes right below the water and often 1 to 4 meters deep. This is a great destination for families or when you travel with non divers: they will be able to enjoy the rich sea life, beautiful soft and hard corals, without swimming more than a few metres. You can rent snorkel gear in any restaurant or street shop for around 2$ per day.
Diving Safety
If you are planning an upcoming dive trip or travelling to Amed, it is a really good idea to invest in travel insurance for scuba diving, because you never know what could happen and when you might need it (because accidents do happen!). I recommend this diving insurance as they offer worldwide coverage and focus on providing scuba divers a quality insurance and medical assistance service.

Really laid back place. Very good for muck diving, snorkelling and relaxing.
Me and my boyfriend have been here many times (I live in Bali) as it’s my favourite spot. We often stay at Amed Cafe which is right on the beach (and the lady in the dive centre/internet cafe is super friendly as are all staff). I love it here!!! Diving, snorkelling, relaxing…. bliss.
I really like Amed too! Peaceful place… and good place for easy snorkelling too.
We went here too, but we stayed in Jemeluk. Honestly you can spend entire days lazing around on deck chairs outside the cafes or hotels on the beach. Then at night, you can order a fresh fish meal (normally caught that day) and watch the sunset with a beer.
When you get in the water, it is like Finding Nemo straight away! No need to walk out very far. All you need is to hire a snorkel and tuba from a local stand and you are set for a great week!
And it’s not too touristy either and not overdeveloped. Although the ladys on the beach will ask you day and night if you want a massage (if you so wish).
We will come back here again for sure! It is a truly relaxing beach holiday.

Dive center is well .
Relaxing dives with nice mix of underwater life. Our local dive guide confirmed that the pigmy seahorse disappeared from the bay at the end of 2016. Still, there is plenty to see!
