If you have dived in Boracay Island before, please share your experiences: Dive spots you would recommend, which Dive Center you used, Fishes & Diving, Visibility, Currents, etc. Please post your comments in the section below, by doing so you will help fellow divers to plan their next trip ;)

Boracay is more famous for its beautiful beaches than for its diving. However there is interesting reef diving for beginners as well as for more experienced divers.

There are dozens of Dive centres along White Beach! They all have the same prices so choose the one you feel most comfortable with. As most of the dive sites are easy and diving there is quite cheap (around $33 a dive), it is a good place to learn scuba diving or to get your next level certificate.

There are about 25 dive sites around Boracay accessible by a short boat ride. There are shallow and easy spots where you can observe the colourful reef life and stunning coral with parrot fishes, damsel fishes and turtles.

There are also more challenging dive sites like Yapak and Camia reserved for experienced divers because of the depth and current. You can see there pelagic fishes such as Barracudas, Dogtooth Tunas, Trevallies. Whitetip and Blacktip Reef Sharks can also be spotted.

Dive sites like Crocodile Island and Laurel Island are also interesting places close by for underwater macro photography as there are many critters to find, such as Pipefishes, Nudibranchs and brilliant, colourful coral.

It is also possible to enjoy relaxing night dives directly from the beach! Few dive operators also organized short liveaboards trips to explore other nearby Islands.

You can also explore this underwater world on a Liveaboard trip that generally combines several islands. I usually use this website to book in advance my Liveaboards in the Philippines as they usually have the lowest rates I find. I like it because they have an easy booking system.

In this page you will find more detailed information about scuba diving in Boracay Island.

Where to stay?

I usually use this website to book in advance my hotels in Boracay Island as they usually have the lowest rates I find. I like it because it's free to cancel and change the dates.

Best time to dive in Boracay Island

Diving Season

It is possible to dive all year round in Boracay.

  • The visibility is usually very good (20m to 30m) from April to June but it is reduced to only 5m to 10m from December to February because of a high density of Plankton in the water. Between these two periods you can expect a visibility ranging from 15m to 20m.
  • The water temperature is usually around 28°C but it is colder from December to February (25°C). Expect a high 32°C in April and May!
  • Depending on the monsoon, you will dive either on the East side or the West side of Boracay but conditions are generally good.

Snorkelling in Boracay Island

You can either go snorkelling directly off the shore from one of the several fine beaches of the Island or you can take an organised Snorkelling day tour on a boat to visit the best spots around the Island. These will be either on a motorized banca or a sail boat.

Diving Safety

If you are planning an upcoming dive trip or travelling to Boracay Island, it is a really good idea to invest in travel insurance for scuba diving, because you never know what could happen and when you might need it (because accidents do happen!). I recommend this diving insurance as they offer worldwide coverage and focus on providing scuba divers a quality insurance and medical assistance service.

  1. Dived about 20 times in boracay personally, really love the drift dive in the channel, infact it gives me goosebumps just typing. Also Yapak was just mind blowing, yapak dive site for me was better than bungee jumping, biggest rush of my life, maybe because i dived on a full moon tide where the current was just crazy!

Just seen the bat cave above, havent tried that site, sounds intense though!!

  2. I don’t have enough knowledge for diving but I like to be a Best Diver. Thank you for the very informative article. This must be the best site to help me for Diving. For my success in diving. Thank you.

  3. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Diving in Boracay was an experience of a lifetime. Would suggest it to anyone thinking of taking the plunge!! :)

  4. I took my discovery dive at Borocay Island with a friend.
It was awesome to say the least. The instructors took us down to around 30 feet. One did video and and pictures while the other stayed Right behind us watching over us.We used Free Willy Diving right on the beach. The staff was awesome in every way.I highly recommend Free Willy Diving if you are planning a trip there.

  5. As a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer I have dived and taught scuba all over the world from Mallorca to Maldives and Cyprus to the Canaries plus all the top dive sites in the Philippines and have to big up Yapak Wall (33-70m) at Boracay, Virgin Drop (40m), Camia 2 Wreck (26m) (excellent training wreck and gorgeous artificial reef), Tribird (Russian 36 seater aircraft at 29m), Punta Bunga (35m) and Crocodile Island (spectacular island reef) as World Class Dive Sites. I have completed more than 900 dives on Boracay teaching here for two seasons all manner of PADI Courses including Specialty Line Penetration. The sheer variety of dive sites on the Island make it ideal for all levels of divers. I cannot recommend Boracay highly enough for diving if you don’t believe me i challenge you now to dive Yapak 2 with me.

    • Hi Dennis!
First, thank you very much for the kind words! It means a lot to us, the bloggers, and web managers of the world! :)
That said, Mallorca is a little far from Boracay don’t you think? Thus, a little off-topic for this page… especially knowing that we have a page about diving in Spain ;) I encourage you to review or share your experience on the destination on its proper page because it prevents information mix-up and allows readers to find what they are looking for easily. Also, outside links are not accepted and end up in the spam basket.
Thank you for reading Divezone! Best bubbles, always!

  7. Hello Imelda, go visit Mike Martillano owner of Eclipse Dive Shop and PADI Instructor at Tita Magz, a friend of mine and do mention me. He will take you out and show you the best of Boracay. I’m currently in Cebu working freelance with dive shops in Moalboal, Malapascua and Alegria. Add me on FB as Arne J. Wood.

  8. Boracay is great. Make sure you visit Yapak dive site. It is big enough to do a few dives at this site to see it all. It is also best to have advanced dive certification as it is a deeper dive. Expect to go to atleast 100-110 feet.
