Chumphon Pinnacle is an excellent dive site and the best spot in Koh Tao. The spot features several pinnacles and underwater boulders with great marine life such as batfishes, barracudas, potato groupers, Leopard Sharks and all the usual reef fishes of the gulf of Thailand. You can also see juvenile Bull Sharks. They have long been misidentified as Grey Reef Sharks. These Sharks are curious and potentially dangerous but no accidents have ever been reported. If you are very lucky you can also spot a Whale Shark!!! The best chances to encounter these gentle giants are from February to May as well as September. Manta Rays are also occasional visitors. The pinnacle starts at 12 meters and Maximum depth is 35 meters deep. This superb dive site is more suitable for advanced divers. Chumphon Pinnacle is located 11km North West of Ko Tao.
You can dive Chumphon Pinnacle all year long. Access: from the Shore. See the map of Chumphon Pinnacle on the right for the exact location.

Diving Reviews for this region
Koh Tao
Diving hub of Thailand to learn how to dive. Cheap and easy diving on a beautiful island.
I was in Koh Tao again last week. To do advanced open water at Davy Jones Locker and dived at Chumphon Pinnacle for the first time. It was wonderful down there. walls were laden with beautiful corals and tons of fish were present. i did not see any shark but the marine life there was fantastic.
I find this place fabulous.
This is the best dive site in Koh Tao in my opinion along with Sail Rock (although not often visited due to the distance needed to travel…) On a clear day amazing views from above while descending towards the pinnacle. The Sharks were always located right at the very bottom of the dive site you had to try hard to spot them. I think this is the very best dive site i have ever been to and i have been to a few over the years – so well worth a visit if you do ever make it out to Koh Tao
