MV Dream Catcher 2 dive boat review
MV Dream Catcher 2, owned by Sun Princess Ltd, is one of the many luxury liveaboard safari vessels on offer in the Maldives. Dream Catcher II offers itineraries around these amazing coral island and atolls where you have the opportunity to possibly see sharks, manta rays and other large pelagic life.
With it’s rich, deep blue Indian Ocean waters, stunning white beaches and diverse marine life, the Maldives has long been considered a heaven for Scuba divers and a must-see destination. Diving varies from simple reef dives for novices to strong currents, splitting points and cleaning stations for those experienced divers.
Completed in March 2008, Dream Catcher 2 liveaboard is a comfortable, luxurious vessel. Wooden-hulled this diving boat is 31.21m long and 9.69m in beam. She has a cruising speed of 9 knots from her 400hp diesel engine. This makes her almost exactly the same size as competitors MV Virgo and MV Princess Dhokamana – albeit marginally less expensive for some itineraries.
You can check the availability, schedule and prices for this liveaboard here.

There are 4 ‘Standard’ suites, 2 ‘Panoramic’ suites and, finally, 1 ‘Mega’ Suite. The cabins are separated over 2 decks with the Panoramic suites on the middle/centre deck. The Standard and Mega suites, however, are located on the lower deck.

My name is Sarah Schübl, I am the owner of LINK REMOVED, a travel agency specialized in scuba vacations. We are based in Germany.
I am reaching out to you concerning the Dream Catcher. We have been working with Dream Catcher for several years and we could see the continuous deterioration of the boat and crew. The manager, Ali Sabree, was not investing any funds into maintenance and upgrading nor training the crew for the guests.
What happened to our guests was something we had never experienced before:
We had booked a charter with Dream Catcher for 14 – 21 April 2019 and the cruise had been terminated by the captain prior to the final date on a local island. The boat was leaking and water came into various cabins. The guests had been panicking and the captain felt it was his duty to stop the cruise and stabilize the boat in a local port before it sank. Even worse, electricity cables were running all over the boat and were posing a serious additional risk. There was no cruise director on board nor Ali Sabree felt responsible to put the guests into a hotel or make up for the loss of dives and the terrible cruise. The boat is totally run down and even worse has a serious issue with termites slowly and steadily eating into the substance of the wooden boat. Some of the guides / cruise directors were brand new and previous ones had terminated the cooperation with Dream Catcher, since Ali didn’t pay them. What was most disappointing was Ali’s behaviour. He didn’t feel it was his duty to refund the guests (it’s now 3 months after the trip) for the disastrous trip or make up for the bad experience they had including obviously less dives than promised. In order to avoid any legal case we refunded our guests out of our own pocket, since customer satisfaction is extremely important to us.
Here is a list of major problems with Dream Catcher our guests had reported to us:
– Engine problems and subsequent power shortage (no continuous water or A/C or cooling system for the kitchen)
– Engine failure on dhoni – 2 times during the week!
– No and old oxygen tank WITHOUT O-ring to fit the valve! Tank had last check in 2015!!!!! No mask which fit on the tank! And only 1 tank! Dhoni didn’t had oxygen at all!!!! NOBODY from Dive masters knew how to use an oxygen!!!!!
– Huge termites problem in all cabins – massive termites swarms flying around, esp. during the night
– Electricity in all the cabin was in the middle of the cabin and we were stepping over the cables, one electricity plug burned out!
– Leaking water from the ceiling
– Not enough belts for weights! for divers and not enough weight! We lost two dives because of that!!! Tanks were in poor conditions.
– Elastics for holding tanks were broken and screws on dhoni were rusty.
– NO FRESH WATER on dhoni – we couldn’t wash cameras and equipment at all!!!!
– In all cabins in the shower were clogged and you can see mold all over.
– Sink in cabin 4 were clogged! guest were washing teeth above the toilet!!!!!
– Towels were dirty – black – in all cabins! White and beach towels!
– Sheets in cabins 5, 7 were full of dried blood!!!!
– Showers were without or only with half doors! only in cabin 6 had full door but they it didn’t close!
– The walls in the cabins had cracks and they were soft, even if you touch the wall there was a hole right away!
– Food was everyday the same and it was not enough! the salad and fruit was only for few persons!!!!
– Because of power failure the food was under question! we saw butter which was yellow and white (so you can see that was few time frozen and thawed)!!!! i got food poisoning!!!!
– Dive masters were not professional and they were unexperienced! One of the Dive masters has left the group every day and he finished the dive after 15-20 min!!!!
– Boat was dirty from the bottom because was leaving the paint – see pics!
– Boat was also greasy – because the crew from the kitchen was doing all the work around. All the hand rails and floors were greasy… we were walking in the flip flops!!!!
– Whole crew was inexperienced !!! not just in diving but general!
If you had similar experiences with Dream Catcher, I would be more than happy to hear about it!
Many scuba greetings from Germany,
Sarah

Our company has been working with liveaboard round the world since 2002
A lot of owners of fleets and yachts know us very well
Once we heard about Dream Catcher and it’s low prices. We were waiting some time and checking reviews.
We understood that the boat is old and something is broken always on it. Because of this Ali Sabree could provide safari round Male instead Ari Atoll itinerary for ex. or reduce safari to 5 days from 7. It was scandals every time.
We were afraid to work with them. But in some time we heard, that Dream Catcher was renovated fully and now it’s Dream Catcher II with new life and new approach to service.
And I took a risk to book full charter with them on 31 Oct 2020.
Ali Sabree refused to provide the trip in spite of all yachts in Maldives worked active in October and promised to send money back before 1 Jan 2021.
But we didn’t receive money no in January, no in April.
Instead this, Ali Sabree settle the yacht in dry dock with the words, that our money has gone to current repair and that we should help each other.
Pictures, he sent to me were awful. It was very old and not nice boat. Finally, one day Ali has just stop answer me at all.
I don’t want anybody to repeat this experience. Please, be careful.
If you need chunks from letters from Ali or pictures, please, give me to know. I’m ready to send to you all proofs.
